Ceramic production process
Ceramic production is an ancient and delicate handicraft that involves multiple processes such as selecting clay, shaping, decorating, and firing.
Firstly, the most important step in the ceramic production process is choosing suitable clay. Different types of clay have different characteristics and uses. For example, kaolin clay is often used for white or light-colored porcelain; red iron clay is commonly used for red or brown ceramics. By carefully selecting and blending different types of clay, ideal texture and color can be achieved.
Secondly, during the shaping stage, there are two common methods: manual sculpting and mechanical pressing. Manual sculpting requires experienced craftsmen with skilled techniques to create various complex forms with smooth lines; while mechanical pressing can improve production efficiency and ensure consistent product dimensions. Regardless of which method is chosen, patience and focus are required to ensure every detail is perfectly presented.
Next comes the decoration stage where techniques such as glazing, painting, and carving are widely applied to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the ceramics and convey specific themes or meanings. Glazing can make the ceramics smoother and more durable; painting brings a variety of patterns and colors to them; carving creates a three-dimensional effect with textured surfaces.
Finally, there's the firing process where once temperature control has been mastered, the shaped objects that have been decorated can be transformed into hardy items with practical value through kiln firing.
